Mitchell County Regional Health Center (MCRHC) is rolling into the future with the launch of its first Electronic Health Record (EHR) system across all clinics in June 2026. This is a true all-hands-on-deck transformation; a behind-the-scenes effort that’s laying a brand-new foundation for how we care for our community. Since its founding in 1952, MCRHC has used traditional paper-based patient records and physical charts in its clinic settings. MCRHC is located in rural northern Iowa in Mitchell County, population 10,700.
To keep our staff of approximately 200 informed, energized, and moving forward together, we created The Bedrock Bulletin. It’s a weekly, internal e-blast inspired by everyone’s favorite modern Stone Age family: The Flintstones! Each issue delivers a quick project update, a handy glossary of newfangled EHR terminology, and a healthy dose of Flintstones trivia and humor…because even big change should come with a smile. Our trivia often includes a nod to innovation, a gentle reminder that our EHR is an example of modernization and thinking big. “Think Big” — looking ahead to the future of healthcare — is also one of MCRHC’s core cultural beliefs.
The first e-blast went out to our staff in August 2025, and as our EHR journey progressed (and in true Bedrock fashion), we added a weekly Healing Stone Giveaway. The Healing Stone is a tiny but mighty, heart-shaped stone symbolizing care, resilience, and progress. One staff member is selected at random weekly to receive the Healing Stone.
Designed using the Flintstones’ official Bedrock Orange (Pantone 152 C) and a stone-textured background, The Bedrock Bulletin keeps things light, fun, and on theme. We’ve been careful to stay mindful of trademark/copyright considerations while still capturing the spirit of Bedrock and MCRHC. Building the future of healthcare is serious work, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be rock-solid fun.
